SBD - unknown (low) gen - major upgrade - A-/A quality
Get stoked people, because this one is a serious gem that almost didn't happen. As embarrassing as this is to admit, I somehow managed to accidentally hoard this cassette for years. How's that possible, you ask? Well, back in the day when I was a young and naive trader looking for my particular niche of hardcore and not much else, I acquired a fairly extensive collection of tapes from generous guys like Pat (aka electric) and Chris (aka BCT), who would mail them to me in exchange for cleaned-up CD transfers. About a month ago, I was packing my apartment up in preparation for another obnoxious cross-country move, and happened to dust off and look through my box of cassettes. To my dismay, I found several shows that I'd never digitized - some that didn't appeal to me at the time (including an uncirculated early Dag Nasty show I'll be posting at PT), others with no good explanation, including this one. To make matters worse, the discovery occurred a few days after extensive balcony drilling on my building had commenced - the constant vibrations distorted the playback and transfer, so I had to digitize them in the middle of the night. Anyways, I found the time and now we can all reap the rewards.
Initially, I'd assumed this was inferior to my copy of the easy-to-find "Still Hungry" commercial bootleg, which has the whole "underwater drums" thing going on and very little high end. Fortunately, it's a major upgrade, with less compression applied to the drums and vocals, and a much cleaner sound overall. My "Still Hungry" also lacks the vast majority of the introduction found here. Overall, a fantastic, energetic show. Highlights include rowdy renditions of "I Don't Want To Grow Up" classics like "Good Clean Fun" and the title track, a pummeling "Rockstar", and the missing link between "Der Weinerschnitzel" and "Alfredo's". Classic stuff. I have an original flyer for this show in storage - 1000km across the country, unfortunately. If this torrent is still alive next time I'm in Vancity, I'll do a nice scan and post it.
I plan on posting a few more rare shows in the near future, so watch for those. My upload speed is terrible so please bear with me on that.
The 'Mats project is on hold for a bit, but I've still got all of that on the backburner. Right now I'm looking for BIG BOYS shows - can you help me with my quest? Also, do you have any rare punk live/demo/radio tapes collecting dust that you would like digitized? Send me a PM if so!
Thanks guys, enjoy, share freely, fuck capitalism and all that.
