LINE UP D Boon - guitar, vocals George Hurley - drums Mike Watt - bass, vocals Various sources, see above Trade tape > Computer WAV > TLH v2.4.1 > FLAC 8 > DIME > you Big thanks to the original tapers & sharers of these fine shows. I completed this compilation 2011-12-25. I redid the volume levels for the tracks, first normalizing to 95% as a starting point. Then I did additional adjustments, bringing louder sources down further / bringing quieter ones up further. In some spots I minimized clap/bass-note level spikes, so the overall song could be brought up higher. And on 2 tracks I actually did partial-song-boosts, to compensate for SBD 'quiet part's too quiet' segments. It's not perfectly even, but it's way better than without the adjustments. At times I added in fade-ins or fade-outs - Minutemen song transitions can be quick at times. And I added 2sec of outright silence delineating the LP side flip points. The basic audio source was not otherwise altered. Each track was SBE-fixed individually. NOTES Hearing the track Martin's Song live (in the recent 1984-12-08 seed, thx for that!) started all this for me. What you makin', man? I'm making a comp. I'm not usually a comp guy, but I felt like assembling this one for myself. After getting partway thru the process, I thought that others might enjoy it too. If you like whole shows, pass on this one. - - - - All but 6 of the tunes that are 'Double Nickels On The Dime', played live & put in the order of the 2xLP. It's incomplete, as some may not have been played live (or didn't show up in shows I have). * Take 5 & You Need The Glory sound like messing around in the studio, so I could see why not * Notebook, Nature, & Politics are really hot tracks, bummer to not find a live version out there * Dr. Wu, hey they did other covers but why not this one live, I dunno * and of course the car jams aren't here Other tracks are imperfect: * My Heart, guitar cut out a little ways in * there's a muted-volume spot in the great version of Spillage, & some static in Untitled Song * Love Dance, w/ no guitars, as if they do it whenever D needs repair time - none had the great guitar solo And it's weird at times hearing the jump from a hissy FM to a clear SBD, oh well. What I was after worked out overall, & I think it came out pretty good. I actually did listen to all versions of the songs, & specifically picked these from the bunch. Made notes & skipped some right away, then went back & listened to the best versions to see which stood out. * sometimes sound won out, could hear the vocals (tops on my list here) or instrument mix better * other times the ferocity of a version made it a must-include, even if there was a buzz in the background * also tossed out many of the WREK tunes because they self-edited lyrics for airing on radio Anyway, I didn't just simply grab the most easily available version; each track had a reason to be here. Tho this is 'live', I edited things tight like the album / notta lotta clapping or between-song chatter etc. But I did leave bits in, either end of one track or start of next, to fit the LP's between-track flow. A lotta bands seem to be into this 'do the whole of an LP live, from front to back' nowadays. With D gone, we'll never get that opportunity. - - - - I created little stub files for the 6 missing songs, each 1sec of silence. This keeps the track numbering intact on a CD player. (yeah EAC warns they're 'less than the 4sec minimum file size for CD audio spec', but it still works/plays.) You could drop-in the missing songs off the LP in place of the stubs, if you're so inclined. And it leaves things ready for a similar drop-in update, should live versions of these tracks show up. - - - - Never forget D. Boon. Play it loud. - - - - Crank it up and ENJOY! it as I have, and share it so others can hear it. - - - - Filenames have numbers on the end that are the TIMES (ex. - "...-359" is 3min59sec long). - - - - The usual schmack applies here: Please don't post this anywhere but DIME.
